Colline Metallifere · Maremma

At the table
Here fish rules: the catch from the canal harbour reaches the village restaurants every day — fritto misto, cacciucco, spaghetti with clams. And the hinterland answers with tortelli maremmani and wild boar. A place that brings sea and Maremma together on the same menu.

Wine and olive oil
The municipal area falls within the Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC zone — historically Castiglione was famous for its Aleatico — and the Strada del Vino Monteregio passes through here, between the castle and the archaeological site of Vetulonia. The hillside olive groves produce Toscano IGP extra virgin olive oil.
Festivals
Summer in Castiglione is a continuous calendar of events on the harbour and in the upper village; the Vetulonia area, with its museum and Etruscan tombs, adds a reason to visit all year round. And the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve, on the edge of the town, is a paradise for birdwatching.
