Colline Metallifere · Maremma

At the table
The most famous event is the Sagra della Bistecca: steak grilled over embers beneath the chestnut trees, the summer event that draws people from across the province. Around it, the cooking is that of the Maremma uplands: porcini mushrooms, chestnuts, tortelli, game and pecorino.

Wine and olive oil
The Montieri area is part of the Strada del Vino Monteregio delle Colline Metallifere district; lower down, vines and olive groves (Toscano IGP extra virgin olive oil) take the place of the chestnut woods.
Festivals
Besides the Sagra della Bistecca, every three years the village celebrates the Madonna dei Castagni, a devotion alive since 1804, with the sacred image kept in a sanctuary among the chestnut groves. And the village is one of the Gateways to the Tuscan Mining UNESCO Global Geopark.
