Ribolla

The miners' town, today a gateway to the UNESCO Geopark of the Colline Metallifere.

Ribolla, in the municipality of Roccastrada, in the Tuscan Maremma, province of Grosseto, is a town with a history unlike any other nearby: born in the nineteenth century as a mining village around the lignite pits, it lived by the mine until the 1950s. Today it is the Gateway to the National Park of the Colline Metallifere — Tuscan Mining UNESCO Global Geopark — for the municipality of Roccastrada: its working-class memory has become heritage to visit. It is a flat, convenient town, with shops and services, halfway between Grosseto and the sea at Follonica.

At the table

Straightforward Maremma cooking: tortelli, acquacotta, grilled meats, wild boar, pecorino. The tradition here is the convivial one of the mining families: long tables and dishes that fill you up.

Wine and olive oil

The surrounding hills fall within the Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC zone and produce Toscano IGP extra virgin olive oil.

Festivals

The town calendar revolves around the summer festivals and the Geopark's activities, with visits and trails through the mining history of the Bruna valley.
