The village in the woods 20 minutes from the beaches: game, chestnut trees and good air.

Tirli is a medieval hill village, a hamlet of Castiglione della Pescaia, in the Tuscan Maremma, province of Grosseto: perched among holm oak and chestnut woods, with glimpses that in the right spots reach the sea. The coast and the finest beaches of the Maremma are around 17 km away — less than a 20-minute drive — but up here the air is hill air, cool even in summer. Cobbled lanes, stone archways, the church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo with its relics: a small village with a very strong identity.

Tirli is known locally for its game cooking: wild boar in every form, pappardelle, the dishes of the woods. The village's traditional restaurants are a destination for anyone coming up from the coast in search of real flavours, matched with local wines.

Wine and olive oil

The municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia falls within the Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC zone; among the chestnut and holm oak woods, clearings of olive groves produce Toscano IGP extra virgin olive oil.

Festivals

Village festivals fill the main square in summer; in autumn the woods call with chestnuts and mushrooms, and the footpaths become the best way to experience the village.
